EC Cycling Club

About

How It All Started

A Genappe cycling group held together by humour, WhatsApp, and the occasional puncture.

EC Cycling started the way most good ideas do: someone said,
“We should probably ride bikes together… right?”

And so here we are, a cycling club with one very dedicated member and a few brave souls circling nearby. We’re small, but enthusiastic… like a peloton made entirely of puppies.

We’re an English-speaking cycling group made up of locals, expats, and wandering souls who somehow ended up in Wallonia. The founder’s Australian, so expect a bit of dry humour, a touch of sarcasm, and absolutely no apologies for either. Mix in some British influences and you get the perfect storm: cycling, banter, and tea that’s never quite strong enough.

As we grow, we’re open to ideas, suggestions, and questionable opinions about tyre width. One day we’d love to have proper groups

A Group — Fast-but-Friendly (30–35+ km/h)We don’t have an A group yet  but if a few fast riders turn up and want to form one, go for it. We’ll cheer you on… from behind.

B Group — Casual-but-Not-Crawling (25–29 km/h)- Our current and only group. Friendly pace, steady effort, no heroics. Perfect for everyday riders who enjoy good company and a decent workout.

For now, we ride at a steady B-group pace. Most rides are around 60 km, starting from Genappe, Belgium. Nothing too dramatic.

EC Future Plans

EC® is still young, but we’re dreaming big. In time, we aim to grow into a three-group club , from steady tempo riders to full-gas enthusiasts , so everyone can ride at the pace that feels right for them. We’re already sketching ideas for our first EC® club jerseys, with the brand proudly displayed on your back, legs, and maybe even your gloves if we get carried away.

As we continue to build momentum, we plan to formalise as an ASBL (non-profit), giving the club a solid foundation to support camaraderie, physical health, mental wellbeing, and a strong, inclusive cycling community in Genappe and across Walloon Brabant.

We’re also open to collaborating with others who share this vision, whether that means future board members, co-organisers, ride leaders, or simply people who want to help shape what EC® becomes. Nothing is fixed, nothing is forced; the door is open for those who feel called to be part of the journey.
